Six years ago, four girls did something surprising.
After completing Grade 10 at a public school, they enrolled in a private school, unlike most of their classmates. Instead of staying at the national high school in Granada and Bata in Bacolod City and Dian-ay in Escalante City, they transferred to Maranatha Christian College Senior High School which offers voucher subsidy.
This financial assistance worth P20,000 per school year is given by the Dept. of Education and Private Education Assistance Committee to Grade 10 completers from public junior high schools who prefer private education for Grades 11-12.
They enjoyed a free-tuition privilege, paying P1,000 per semester for enrolment and miscellaneous fees, excluding uniforms, etc., until graduation from MCC SHS in 2020.
Last June 2024, something interesting happened to all four of them.
They all graduated from their respective college courses with Latin honors: Riza Arisco, cum laude in management accounting (Carlos Hilado Memorial State University), Rica Arisco, magna cum laude in secondary education, math (Bacolod City College), Zhybielle Nessia, cum laude in English language (Carlos Hilado Memorial State University), and Mary Joy Bernabe, magna cum laude in elementary education (Bacolod City College).
“My SHS experience at MCC is something I truly thank the Lord for. The reputable school prepared us beyond expectations. MCC ensured that we thoroughly understood the lessons taught by our teachers, with integrity and wisdom.” (Rica Arisco)
“MCC taught us to be academically excellent and competent, qualities that I carried into my college years. The school hones students to reach their full potential and abilities.” (Riza Arisco)
“The school holds a special place in my heart because it holistically molded and honed me. This means that I was also involved in various extracurricular activities without compromising my academics.” (Zhybeille Nessia)
“It has provided me with the resources and encouragement I needed to succeed, helping me to stay motivated and focused on my studies… I would like to express my deepest gratitude to Maranatha Christian College for teaching me to be better in every aspect of my life. Through its help and support, I have been able to overcome the challenges of being a working student.” (Mary Joy Bernabe)
Takeaway: Studying at MCC Senior High School can help some transferees from public junior high schools excel in college.
